Ukraine war talks hold promise

Ukraine war talks hold promise for breakthrough Khatir’s major statement

US President Donald Trump said that ongoing negotiations aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine have a good chance of succeeding. He stated that despite deep animosity between the two sides, negotiators are close to reaching an agreement.

Responding to a question about the prospects for peace talks on Friday, Trump said, “I think there’s a very good chance it will be successful.” He explained that the conflict is particularly complex because of the intense personal animosity between the leaders of the two countries.

“Zelenskyy and Putin hate each other,” Trump said.

President Trump also emphasized the heavy human cost of the war, stating that a large number of lives have been lost in the conflict. According to him, “millions of people have died,” and he described the recent losses on the battlefield as horrific.

He said the United States is continuously working to bring both sides closer to an agreement. “I think we have a good chance of getting it resolved. We’re very close to a deal,” Trump said.

Trump also claimed that he ended several conflicts during his presidency and that this experience would allow him to help end this war as well. “I ended eight wars,” he said, without providing further details.

The president did not specify the terms of any potential agreement or any concessions involved. Nor did he clarify how long the negotiations might take to conclude.

Trump’s remarks came during a broader conversation in the Oval Office, where he was also asked about Iran, Venezuela, and domestic issues. He gave brief answers and avoided discussing sensitive diplomatic processes.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has been ongoing for several years, and numerous international efforts have been made to end it. However, negotiations have repeatedly stalled due to disagreements over issues such as territorial disputes, security guarantees, and sovereignty. The United States has played a key diplomatic role in this conflict. It is working with its allies to pressure both sides to agree on a practical path to end the fighting.
